About A Side Of Writing:H. Conrad Miller filmstrip

Finally a place to grab a bite to eat and work on my book!

That is what I am looking for, that moment where I think just that. Those places where you can find the perfect combo: inspiration to write, good food and the right environment. Out of that idea, A Side Of Writing was born. A blog about writing and food and places to enjoy both. We will be looking at the craft of writing and the things that help us put the right words on paper to make that masterpiece. We will be also be looking at places to eat and food in general. Places to grab a great bite to eat and sit down to write. Food that is awesome and not nearly as hard to make as you may think. And even about how food can help you write, the exploration of culture that food really is and how it can help flesh out your writing with depth that very few things can do so easily.

“A fantastic writer blog that deals with the brass tacks of the writing process.” -Roger Colby, writingishardwork.wordpress.com

About me:

Who is this guy? That is the question that most people ask when they are clicking the “about” tab on a web page. Who is this guy and why should I care what he is talking about? My name is Conrad and I am just your not so normal Midwestern boy, world traveler, protector of peace, food lover, cook, writer, blogger, soon to be possessor of an English bachelors, and most importantly husband of the most amazing woman and proud father of three wonderful girls. Life has taken me on some crazy and wild adventures. And I can’t wait to see where it will take me next.

A bit of history, raised in the Midwest with my five siblings, met the woman of my dreams, joined the Marines after an attempt at college, traveled a large portion of the world and eating every “weird” cuisine I could find, decided I love writing, reconnected with the woman of my dreams and this time snagged her and convinced her to spend the rest of her life with me and then some, currently living on the west coast with my wonderful family of three girls, my amazing wife, one awesome dog and two crazy cats.

Life should be fun and exciting. Mine is definitely that. Full of adventuring and eating and writing!

A brief update… As you can see on the right I did do NaNoWriMo this year. I finished my first draft with about 15 minutes to spare before midnight. And now it is in the process of being edited and revised and rewritten. It will be interesting to see it evolve into a book.

As you can tell from the picture I have been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award three times. Which is awesome and I have to thank Pete Dentonisleofbooks, and Roger Colby at writingishardwork.wordpress.com again for the recognition.

Kreative Blogger Award

Another awesome award nomination, the Kreativ Blogger Award. Thank you to Marc Schuster for nominating me. It is great feeling when the people who you respect read your blog and enjoy it enough to nominate you for an award.

    Congratulations! That is an achievement.

  2. Hi Conrad, thanks for your support and comments on my blog, I really appreciate it! Your About page is great, the snaps of you at your keyboard are what I think many of us look like as we ponder our next page of edits!

All the best for a fantastic 2012…and beyond!

    • Thanks. I like how my about page turned out. It took me a bit to figure out what to out on it. I think that most people get baffled by what to say about themselves and what to put in a bio for an about page. So getting good feed back from it is always great.

      Keep up the great blogging.

    Hi!!
    Great About-ness.
    ::applause::
And congrats for doing NaNo! That’s a significant accomplishment.
    🙂

    • Thank you very much. NaNoWrimo was fun. Hard. But fun. I’m glad that I did it and look forward to doing it again next year.
I will admit that I wish I had your drawing talent. Mine seems to only come around in spurts and I can never seem to make it look the way I want beyond stick figures.

        Oh, my gosh, thank you!

I know NaNo isn’t easy bec I’ve tried it a few times and never made it past the end of the second week. I blame it on indecipherable typos…LOL

Your site is intriguing; I’m looking forward to visiting!
        🙂

Hi, Conrad. Thanks for subscribing to my blog. I’m going to click “Follow” on yours just as soon as I’m finished writing this. Props for doing NaNo this year. I completed it the past two years, but this year got to 28,000 words before realizing that I wasn’t excited about my story. So, how could anyone else be? I’ll definitely do it again next year. I wish it could include poetry, which is what I love to write. Good luck with your blog, which looks like a fun one.

He is pretty amazing and makes me smile too! I love his writing technique and his humor he tucks into his blog. I and our girls are lucky to have him. The stew recipe is deliscious and pretty easy to throw together. He loves it when I make it for him.
